CARDIOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The cardiology department performs all diagnostic and interventional procedures for patients admitted to the hospital and for the external cardiac patients.

This department is divided to the following divisions and units.

Division of catheterization and interventional cardiology :

The hospital has 3 cardiac catheterization laboratories, which are operated by a team of the finest cardiologists and with the assistance of a trained technical team, providing the best services in the field of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, including the following :

- Cardiac catheterization (for adults and pediatric)

- PTCA- Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty and Stenting.

- Carotid Angioplasty and Stenting.

- EP Studies-Electrophysiology including Ablation.

- Temporary and Permanent Pacemaker.

- Myocardial Biopsy.

- Internal Cardiac Defibrillators.

- ASD – PDA Closure by Catheterization.

- Mitral and Pulmonary Valvuloplasty.

This division performs 30 to 40 cardiac catheterizations every day.

Cardiac Intensive Care Division :

This division has two Units : Coronary Care Unit and Catheterization Care Unit. Its mission is to provide critical care services to high-risk patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction or Acute Ischemia, Acute Coronary Syndrome or Heart Failure.

The number of beds of this division 12 beds. It has the best and newest medical equipments and employs the best medical and nursing staff who are well qualified and trained.

Pediatric Division:

This division provides all diagnostic medical services for children with heart diseases including the following :

- Pediatric Echocardiography.

- Transesophageal Echocardiography.

- Pediatric Catheterization including : Diagnostic Catheterization – Therapeutic Catheterization (ASD – PDA Closure , Pulmonic and Aortic Valve balloon Dilatation – Interatrial Septostomy (in cases of primary pulmonary hypertension) – Balloon Dilatation for Aortic Coarctation .

Cardiac Electrophysiology Division :

This division provides diagnostic and therapeutic medical services for Heart Arrhythemia diseases such as diagnosis of various types of Heart Block - Holter ECG - Implanting of Temporary & Permanent Pacemaker - and other devices such as I C D, …etc.

Gamma Camera Division :

This division performs SPECT imaging using Radioisotope Sestamabe (Thallium – Technetium).

The Cardiology Divisions :

It contains the Patients Wards, which provides medical services, nursing and hotel services for the patients admitted to the divisions.

Echocardiography Division :

It contains :

- Cardiology Echo Unit.

- Pediatric Echo Unit.

- Cardiac Surgery Echo Unit.

This division is equipped with the most advanced global technologies.

• Stress Echocardiography.

• Contrast Echocardiography.

• Carotid Doppler Echocardiography.

• Tissue colored Echocardiography.

• Transesophageal Echocardiography.
